Cash bonanza for Costa Rica

Costa Rica's qualification for the 2002 World Cup has earned the country's football federation a $1m bonus.

The Central American side won the Concacaf World Cup qualifying group, finishing ahead of fellow qualifiers the United States and Mexico.

The reward for their efforts was made by Inter/Forever Sports, the official marketing partner for Concacaf.

Costa Rica will be making their second appearance at the World Cup in June following their first run-out at Italia 90 when they finished second in their first round group.

They beat Scotland and Sweden that year and only lost 1-0 to Brazil before going out in the second round to Czechoslovakia.

This time they have again been drawn against Brazil with Turkey and China their other Group C opponents.
