Winfried Schafer

Position: Coach

German Winfried Schafer will face his own country in Group E this summer.

Having only taken charge in September, Schafer was not involved in any of the World Cup qualifying games.

However, he signalled his intent of success this summer by guiding the Indomitable Lions to a second successive African Nations Cup in Mali earlier this year.

Schafer played for Borussia Moenchengladbach, where he won the German league in 1970 and the Uefa Cup in 1979.

He became coach there in 1982 before taking over at Karlsruhe four years later.

After 10 years in charge there, he had spells with VfB Stuttgart and Tennis Borussia Berlin before he was called on by Cameroon.
