Roberto Carlos

Club: Real Madrid
Position: Defender

Roberto Carlos is one of the best attacking defenders in the world.

He joined Spanish giants Real Madrid from Inter Milan in 1996 and has been an ever-present in the side.

In his time in the Spanish captial he has helped Real win two European Cups, three Spanish league titles and two Spanish Cup crowns.

He missed out on being selected for the 1994 World Cup squad - with Branco and Leonardo travelling to the US instead.

But his tireless running up and down the flanks and devastating free-kicks soon made him a regular in the international side.

He is best remembered for his stunning free-kick with the outside of the foot against France at Le Tournoi in 1997.

However, his rocket of an effort against China in the group stages showed he has not lost his touch from dead-ball situations.
