Eric van Meir

Club: Standard Liege
Position: Defender

A veteran defender who played a big part in qualification, van Meir will be hoping it is third time lucky.

He was in the Belgium squad for the 1994 and 1998 finals but hardly featured in either.

Capable of playing as an orthodox centre-back or as a sweeper, his versatility is a big asset.

Tough in the tackle he also has an eye for goal and finished fifth highest scorer in the Belgian League while playing for Lierse in 1999/2000.

He can test goalkeepers from long range and is also a threat when he comes forward for set-pieces.
