Nico van Kerckhoven

Club: Schalke 04
Position: Defender

Van Kerckhoven has made himself first-choice left-back for Belgium.

However, he is more than capable of adapting to a more advanced role - as he is often asked to do in order to make best use of his excellent crossing ability.

He was a member of Belgium's squad at France 98 but only began to get a regular run in the side in the friendly campaign leading up to Euro 2000.

He played all three of his country's games at that tournament and has been a regular in the World Cup qualifying programme.
