Ecuador finish off their first World Cup with a 1-0 win over Croatia, not enough to take them further in the competition.

How did the newcomers do?

Despite propping up Group G, Hernan Dario Gomez's side have performed well. A tough opening match against the gifted Italians condemened them to an almost immediate exit from the tournament.

With the awesome qualification to the World Cup, which included defeating the mighty Brazilians in Quito, I was glad the side secured a deserved win against the inept Croatians.
Bobby Seagull, England

Well done Ecuador, you deserved to go away with a result. Keep the faith and you will be there again to entertain us in 2006.
Geraint, Wales

Suddenly I like Ecuador! Thank you guys, and see you all in Germany in 2006.
Gabriele, Italy

I think even though Ecuador failed to qualify, they should be proud that they made it to the World Cup for the first time and that they won a match.
Mayra Inga, Ecuador

Thanks Ecuador, we will never forget!!!
Alex, Italy

De la Cruz is their only half decent player!
Calum MacDonald,Scotland

" I wish Ecuador all the best "
Ruth, England

I am extremely sorry that Ecuador ended up in the same Group as Mexico as I would have enjoyed cheering on your excellent team. But at least you have proved to everyone that you belong with the world! And we'll most surely see you next time in 2006!
Donald Johnson, México

I wish Ecuador all the best as the time I spent there was the most moving time five months of my life - unfortunately, they don't seem to be doing too well!
Ruth, England

Southampton supporters are very excited about Delgado as he is obviously a huge talent. We are all hoping to see him back at St Mary's after a storming World Cup.
Tom Beardshaw, UK

In Augustin Delgado, Ecuador have one of the most promising talents on show in this World Cup.
