All the action from Saitama - kick-off 1030 BST.

1221 BST: The full-time whistle goes. England have surrendered a first-half lead and then escaped with a draw following a poor performance. They have still not beaten Sweden since 1968.

92 mins: Another mistake by a full-back nearly costs England dear. A hopeful cross-field pass heads straight for Ashley Cole, but he misses the ball completely and it falls to Henrik Larsson. The Sweden striker is well placed - but he hits his shot across David Seaman's goal.

90 mins: Ashley Cole hits a long shot that sums up England's ragged second-half display and just dribbles straight to Magnus Hedman.

89 mins: Paul Scholes flips the ball up in the air to Danny Mills on the right. The full-back lofts over a cross and Emile Heskey sends a header across the face of the goal.

87 mins: Anders Svensson tries to send Henrik Larsson clear with a clever through-ball - but Rio Ferdinand does well to intercept.

84 mins: England seem unable to retain the ball. Possession is frequently squandered to a tigerish Sweden midfield - and Sven-Goran Eriksson's team will be grateful for the final whistle.

82 mins: Freddie Ljungberg and Henrik Larsson link up expertly down the left, but Sol Campbell cleans up with a back-pass, which David Seaman hacks clear.

79 mins: Sweden substitution. Andreas Andersson replaces Marcus Allback and then immediately causes problems down the right, earning his team a corner. The cross is not cleared and it drops for Andreas Jakobsson, who hooks his shot wide.

79 mins: Emile Heskey turns well just outside the area to beat his marker, then strides forward before hitting an angled shot that is wide of the far post.

77 mins: With England's defence backing off, Anders Svensson hits a low shot - but David Seaman saves comfortably.

75 mins: Joe Cole opens up the Sweden defence with a fine run, but rather than pass to Kieron Dyer - making a surging run inside him - he strikes an under-hit shot that fails to trouble Magnus Hedman.

73 mins: England substitution. The impressive Darius Vassell is replaced by Joe Cole. Emile Heskey moves up front alongside Michael Owen.

72 mins: Darius Vassell breaks the last line of the Sweden defence, only to be pulled back by Andreas Jakobsson, who is booked as a result. Kieron Dyer clips the free-kick into the area, but Sweden clear.

70 mins: Another scare for England, as Freddie Ljungberg finds himself in a dangerous position, only to fluff his shot - to the relief of David Seaman.

69 mins: Michael Owen, who has done little in the match, nearly gives England the lead again with a low shot that beats Magnus Hedman at his right-hand post, but hits the side-netting.

67 mins: England are beginning to look ragged and Danny Mills is penalised for a clumsy challenge on Freddie Ljungberg.

65 mins: Sweden are now in complete control and the ball breaks for Tobias Linderoth, who slams a shot over the bar.

63 mins: An excellent save from David Seaman keeps England in the game. Henrik Larsson opens up the English defence with a brilliant angled pass for Teddy Lucic, who hits a first-time shot, which Seaman does well to block.

62 mins: England substitution. Captain David Beckham, who has been struggling to come to terms with the pace of the game, is replaced by Kieron Dyer.

61 mins: David Seaman saves Teddy Lucic's low shot.

58 mins: Sweden equalise following an error from Danny Mills. Tobias Linderoth plays a hopeful ball into the box, which Mills should easily clear. But the right-back dallies and his hurried clearance goes straight to Niclas Alexandersson, who takes his time before hitting a shot past the back-pedalling David Seaman and into the net.
England 1-1 Sweden

55 mins: Niclas Alexandersson crosses from the right and the ball falls to Freddie Ljungberg, unmarked on the edge of the area. The Arsenal man tries an ambitious volley, but totally scuffs his shot and it goes out for a goal-kick.

55 mins: Sweden make their first substitution. Southampton's Anders Svensson replaces Magnus Svensson.

52 mins: Nervous moments in the England box, as Marcus Allback's pass is not cleared - but Sol Campbell eventually clears the danger.

50 mins: Sweden appeal for a penalty when Marcus Allback falls under Rio Ferdinand's challenge. But the referee instead penalises the Sweden striker for an earlier offence.

49 mins: Ashley Cole concedes a free-kick on Sweden's right. Olof Melberg crosses - but Henrik Larsson heads wide.

46 mins: Henrik Larsson slips a square ball to Marcus Allback just outside the box - but Aston Villa's new striker shoots over the bar.

46 mins: Paul Scholes switches play from left to right. Danny Mills tries a low shot - but it is straight at Magnus Hedman.

1132: Sweden kick off at the start of the second half.

1117 BST: The half-time whistle blows. England have enjoyed the majority of possession and have a 1-0 lead - but aside from the goal, they have created few chances and face another nervous 45 minutes against a combative, if uninspiring, Sweden team.

46 mins: Marcus Allback is booked for dissent.

43 mins: Henrik Larsson flicks the ball onto Marcus Allback, who holds off Rio Ferdinand and hits a rising first-time shot that goes a few feet over the bar.

41 mins: Sol Campbell does well to dive in and tackle Marcus Allback on the edge of the England area.

38 mins: David Seaman makes his first save, getting down sharply to his right to hold Marcus Allback's snap-shot.

38 mins: Another corner to England on the left - and it is almost an replica of the goal. This time it is Rio Ferdinand who connects with David Beckham's cross - but his header is wide of the target.

37 mins: Ashley Cole unleashes a fierce shot from 30 yards out - but Magnus Hedman does well to hold the ball.

34 mins: Emile Heskey twice links up with Michael Owen on the left - but an off-side flag ends the attack.

31 mins: Solid defending from goalscorer Sol Campbell, who halts a Swedish attack down the right wing.

27 mins: Rio Ferdinand wins the ball with a crunching tackle on Henrik Larsson - but to the defender's consternation the referee awards Sweden a free-kick 30 yards out. Larsson tries his luck, but his shot is wide of David Seaman's left-hand post.

25 mins: England are suddenly looking very confident. Danny Mills charges at the heart of the Sweden defence - but his speculative shot is never going to trouble Magnus Hedman.

22 mins: Another good run from Ashley Cole earns England a corner on the left. David Beckham provides a typically precise cross - and Sol Campbell rises to power a superb header into the back of the Sweden net.
England 1-0 Sweden

20 mins: A quick free-kick from Paul Scholes allows David Beckham to launch a long ball for Darius Vassell - but he collides with Sweden keeper Magnus Hedman and the chance is lost.

19 mins: Darius Vassell returns to the pitch.

17 mins: Concern for England as Darius Vassell suffers a blow to the head in a clash with Olof Mellberg. He is stretchered off the pitch for treatment and play continues.

16 mins: Corner for Sweden. When Magnus Svensson crosses, Sol Campbell's headed clearance is not good - but David Seaman collects the loose ball.

15 mins: England break down the left flank. Owen Hargreaves sprints down the wing before finding Darius Vassell. The Aston Villa striker pulls the ball back from the byeline, but it s hacked clear.

13 mins: Free-kick for England as Danny Mills is fouled by Teddy Lucic. David Beckham switches the play to the left, where Ashley Cole does well to surge in field - but when the pass comes, Michael Owen is caught off-side.

10 mins: Sol Campbell hacks down Henrik Larsson five yards outside the area and is booked.

9 mins: Danny Mills is penalised for a foul on Freddie Ljungberg - even though the Sweden winger appeared to slip. Teddy Lucic floats the free-kick into the area, but Sol Campbell heads clear.

7 mins: Henrik Larsson breaks forward for Sweden on the right - but his long cross is a poor one and drifts over the bar.

5 mins: Another cross from Danny Mills - but, with Michael Owen poised to pounce, Andreas Jakobsson heads clear.

3 mins: Michael Owen makes a break just outside the area, but loses the ball after beating one defender. England have started brightly.

2 mins: Danny Mills again finds space on the flank - but this time his cross drifts out for a goal-kick.

1 min: David Beckham's first touch since recovering from a broken foot is a sure one, as his slick pass finds Danny Mills, over-lapping to good effect on the right. The Leeds full-back crosses, but the ball is cleared.

1030 BST: England kick off.

1023 BST: The players emerge from the tunnel. David Beckham raises his hands above his head and applauds the estimated 10,000 England fans in a packed Saitama stadium.
