Simon Brotherton will focus on the Republic of Ireland's campaign in his second World Cup.
Having started his career in Birmingham with Radio WM, Brotherton joined BBC Five Live in 1993.
He has since commentated at two European Championships and covered the Champions League final and World Cup of 1998.
Immediately after Japan and South Korea, he will report on his ninth Tour de France before heading for more cycling at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Brotherton has worked at the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics and has also covered boxing for the BBC, including world title fights involving Lennox Lewis, Naseem Hamed and Frank Bruno.
