Born in Cheshire in 1950, Mike Ingham joined the BBC Radio Sport team 25 years ago.
He presented Sport on Two before becoming a football commentator in 1984 and took on the tough task of replacing the legendary Bryon Butler as BBC Radio's football correspondent eight years later.
Ingham has done a commendable job in that role and will be a lynchpin of the BBC's World Cup 2002 coverage from Korea and Japan.
He lives with wife Lorna and family in Buckinghamshire.
