Uruguay's influential midfielder Fabian O'Neill has been ruled out of Thursday's game against France because of an Achilles tendon injury.
O'Neill has not trained for more than two weeks and sat out Uruguay's 2-1 defeat by Denmark in their opening World Cup match.
"He's had another medical inspection and unfortunately he is
ruled out of the match against France," a Uruguay spokesman said.
Uruguay responded to O'Neill's absence against the Danes by
fielding two strikers, with Alvaro Recoba playing as an attacking
midfielder behind them.
They are likely to opt for the same tactics against defending champions France in
their Group A match in Busan.
