Pua goes on attack
Uruguay midfielder Fabian O'Neill
O'Neill expects to be fit for World Cup opener
Uruguay coach Victor Pua has said his team will adopt an attack-minded approach when they play their opener against Denmark on 1 June.

"I will line up the most offensive team I can", Pua was quoted as saying by the El Observador newspaper.

"Denmark are an experienced team, with lots of strength and pace.

"But I think they don't have the same level of creativity of previous years."

The Uruguayan press has speculated that Venezia's Federico Magallanes may win a place in the midfield.

That move would relegate Gianni Guigou to the bench, which would be a signal of the coach's attacking intent.

Pua intends to test his starting line in the friendly against Yokohama Marinos on Saturday, "even if only for the first 45 minutes". Uruguay have also been boosted by the news that striker Sebastian Abreu returned to training after being sidelined for five days because of a foot injury. But midfielder Fabian O'Neill was still absent from training because of an injury.

However, O'Neill is confident that the tendinitis will not prevent him from playing in the World Cup opener.

"According to the doctor, I will need only two or three more days to be fit again," O'Neill told the El Pais newspaper.

"Even if it still hurts me, I will be back to training, and I will have to play with some pain if want to be in the World Cup."
