In 2000/2001, he was part of the Tenerife side that gained promotion to La Liga and that led to an immediate switch to rivals Valencia.

This season he followed up his promotion-winning antics with the league title at his new club.

A powerful right-back, he has proved he has the attributes for an international full-back, although he has taken his time to prove himself.
