Real Madrid's Morientes had a dream start to his international career with two goals in the first five minutes of his debut against Sweden in March 1998.
He is a strong and direct centre forward. In the English mould he is good in the air and is the most likely man to partner club-mate Raul up front in the Far East.
The pair form a well-balanced attack, with Raul the flair player of the two.
Morientes exploded onto the scene with Real Zaragoza, where he scored 28 goals in 66 games over two seasons before joining Real in 1997.
In the 2000 Champions League final he scored the second goal of the 3-0 win over Valencia.
He was in the squad for the last World Cup but failed to make it into the Euro 2000 reckoning.
