The 31-year-old did not even make the grade for much of the early build-up to the tournament but made a late, and successful, bid for team selection.
Despite only earning a late call, Choi is a thick-set keeper who offers the Koreans a strong and often aggressive approach in the goalmouth.
He likes to get out for corners and has done so in some of the later friendlies.
His chances of doing so in front of his home crowd, however, look likely to be limited as he is behind Kim Byung-Ji and possibly Lee Woon-Jae in Guus Hiddink's pecking order.
