Manager Guus Hiddink knows that in Hong Myung-Bo he has a seasoned World Cup campaigner.
This year's tournament will be Hong's fourth finals and, with over 120 caps to his name, he is the most experienced international in Korea's squad.
Hong has been a regular since making his debut in February 1990 and impressing enough to be taken to Italia 90.
He now captains the side from his position at centre-back where he commands the back line with measured authority.
An injury has interrupted his run-up to the World Cup but he is confident of winning back his place in the starting line-up once fully fit.
