Korea make Asia proud
Hong Myung-Bo celebrates scoring South Korea's winning penalty in the shoot-out against Spain
BBC Sport Online's Stuart Roach

Whatever the result of Saturday's third-place play-off in Daegu, South Korea have already emerged as Asia's most successful World Cup nation.

Asian sides had won just four matches at World Cup finals between them before this tournament.

Korea have matched that in the space of four weeks.

Two victories for Japan have raised Asia's football stock even further but Korea are the team to really catch the eye at this tournament.

The Red Devils' sign behind one of the goals in the quarter-final with Spain spelled out the message "Pride of Asia".

And Guus Hiddink's side have lived up to the billing.

Before this tournament they had not won a single finals match, despite playing 13 games in four previous tournaments.

Japan's wins move them alongside Saudi Arabia on two victories, while North Korea and Iran have one win each.

Here BBC Sport Online profiles the rising fortunes of Asian sides throughout World Cup history.
