An attacking midfielder with bags of talent, he began his career with Olimpija Ljubljana in Slovenia before moving on to Red Star Belgrade.
Prior to the World Cup he moved on a free transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
Belief in his international pedigree grew after he lobbed in a magnificent goal from the halfway line in the first leg of the Euro 2000 qualifying play-off with the Ukraine.
He was the youngest player in the squad to travel to Belgium and Holland that year when he was aged just 23.
Has now been capped more than 30 times with his pace and predatory finishing contributing to regular appearances on the score sheet.
