Position:Coach

Frenchman Bruno Metsu, 48, has turned Senegal into a major force in Africa since his appointment as coach in November 2000.

After a low-key career as a player, in which he had spells with Nice, Anderlecht, Lille and Valenciennes, Metsu gained his first international experience as manager of Guinea.

Then came the call from Senegal, who were struggling in their World Cup qualifying group.

Metsu quickly turned things round, leading them to the top of a group including Egypt, Algeria and Morocco, who all had previous World Cup experience.

If leading the Dakar Lions to their first World Cup was not enough, Metsu performed another miracle in February.

This time he took them to the final of the African Nations Cup only to lose on penalties to defending champions Cameroon.
