Salif Diao has always had dreams about playing in English football.
When Liverpool decided to put their chequebook where their interest was, the Senegalese defender said it was a dream come true.
He admitted that he would have been prepared to play for a much smaller club to realise his English dream.
"I used to say to myself that even if a second division club in England came in for me I would go without thinking," Diao said.
"The fact that it is Liverpool is just magic.
"They are one of the top 10 clubs in the world, with a great history.
"I hope to play well, represent Africa the best way I can and win lots of titles."
Diao may be happy about his team's 1-0 defeat of France but he admitted that he was not pleased with his own performance against the defending champions.
"I was not at 100%, but I had not played for a month with my club so I was missing rhythm.
"I feel that I got better by the end of the match, and I hope to get stronger as the matches go on."
Liverpool fans will be watching his performances against Denmark and Uruguay with keen interest.
