Combining his role as national coach with that of managing Spartak Moscow is something Romantsev believes works in his favour.
Regular involvement in the Champions League keeps him on his toes and means he is easily able to keep abreast of some of the world's best players.
Romantsev is also president of the club and has previously managed his country in the 1990s.
His first spell as national manager ended after a poor showing in Euro 96.
As a player he was a defender for both Spartak and the USSR.
