Jason McAteer
Club:Sunderland
Position:Midfielder

Jason McAteer converted the winning goal that pushed the Republic of Ireland into their World Cup play-off and ensured the surprise absence of Holland from the tournament.

He seems to be among the Irish contingent that performs better on international duty than on the domestic front.

After a lengthy spell at Liverpool, he moved to Blackburn Rovers where he failed to find his best form and was subsequently kept out of first team contention.

A move to Sunderland looks to have reinvigorated his taste for international football and he is likely to be a key squad member.

In addition, he can be employed in defence when called upon.
