"Forgive them, Figo," A Bola says in reference to the bad press the Real Madrid midfielder generally gets in Spain, particularly as a result of his lacklustre performances in the Champions League semi-finals.
Figo is also the hot subject of the Portuguese news dailies, who consider his troubled end of season.
"Figo's injury worries," is the Jornal de Noticias headline, reflecting the mood across the nation.
But the Publico daily is most unequivocal, running a headline with a quote from ex Argentina star and Real Madrid coach Jorge Valdano.
"The injury was far worse than people thought," he said.
Figo first hurt his ankle in February, in a Champions League match against Portuguese side Porto.
