Poland will field several of their reserve players and aim to salvage some pride from their final World Cup game, against the United States in Daejeon on Friday.

Another priority will be to score a goal ot two.

"This is the World Cup, and we have to leave it with honour," coach Jerzy Engel said after the 4-0 defeat by Portugal on Monday.

"We would like to gain points in the last game, and score a goal. But we have to give a chance to the players who have not yet played at the World Cup.

"The national team has had its chance in this tournament. We must strive to gain a higher level of perfection."

Ironically, Monday's defeat in the pouring rain coincided with Engel's decision to discard his trusty green waterproof jacket, the good-luck charm he usually carries with him for big games.

"The jacket is for older people who believe in those things, it wouldn't have made a difference here I don't think," Engel said.
