Jorge Campos turned into a celebrated figure overnight when he scored the winner in the 2-1 win in qualifying over Brazil.
The 31-year-old was put through by goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert in the 84th minute before slotting home Paraguay's second goal under the legs of Dida.
That proved to be his only successful strike of qualifying but helped put his country level on points with Brazil in the standings.
He has failed to recapture the same form recently and looks likely to be one of Paraguay's few substitutes with plenty to offer.
