Denis Caniza got a pre-World Cup wake-up call when he was on the receiving end of a 4-0 hammering by England.

But the 27-year-old, a veteran of 12 of Paraguay's 18 qualifying matches, should relish the opportunity to bounce back.

His ability to play anywhere in the back four is a trump card for Paraguayan boss Cesare Maldini.

Recently he has been employed at left back but could be moved into the centre for the World Cup where he plays much of his club football in Mexico.
