Paraguay set up camp at their Korean headquarters on Tuesday full of optimism after a confidence-boosting run of results in their warm-up matches.

Earlier this month, they ended Sweden's 18-month unbeaten run by winning 2-1 in Stockholm.

They have followed that up with wins over Japanese clubs Urawa Red Diamonds and Jubilo Iwata.

Captain and goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert is sure his side can build on their success when the tournament begins on Friday.

He outlined his intentions to the local press, which included getting on the score-sheet.

"I want to get through to the knockout stages and then go all the way to the final. I also hope to score the goals that help take us there," he said.

Chilavert has scored eight times for Paraguay - he regularly takes the team's penalties and free-kicks.

However, the talismanic keeper will be absent from his country's first game against South Africa on 2 June in Pusan, Korea.

He is suspended after spitting at Brazil's Roberto Carlos in a South American qualifying match.

On route to the finals, Paraguay beat Brazil 2-1 and drew twice with runaway group winners Argentina.

Chilavert added that coach Cesare Maldini, who has been criticised in the Paraguayan press, has an excellent relationship with his team.
