"What's the point going ahead with the friendly? We have lost someone dear to our team," Nigeria FA secretary-general Taiwo Ogunjobi told BBC Sport Online in Lagos.
"It's a national tragedy (the plane crash) and we at the FA see it that way. I may call off the China friendly," Ogunjobi said.
The warm-up against their Asian counterparts is part of Nigeria's preparations for the World Cup, which begins on 31 May.
Tragedy
Aku was on his way from the northern city of Kano to Lagos for Saturday's warm-up match between the Super Eagles and Kenya's Harambee Stars.
The aircraft the sports minster was travelling in crashed into a residential area shortly after take-off.
More than 100 people, including the 76 passengers on board, perished in the disaster.
The tragedy occurred before the match but the Super Eagles had no knowledge of Aku's death until Saturday night.
"The entire team was informed after returning from a social function we went to," Ogunjobi said.
Players reaction
Aku's death brought a solemn atmosphere to the Eagles camp.
