Inzaghi back in training
Filippo Inzaghi's celebrations turned to anxiety as he picked up a knee injury
Inzaghi's joy at scoring turned to anxiety
Injured Italy striker Filippo Inzaghi made a return to the training field on Wednesday.

Inzaghi suffered a knee injury in Sunday's friendly against Kashima Antlers and is expected to miss Italy's group G opener against Ecuador on Monday.

Italy team doctor Andrea Ferretti initially gave Inzaghi 7-10 days to recover full fitness, giving the AC Milan star a target of playing in Italy's second game against Croatia on 8 June.

But after two days of physiotherapy the striker looked surprisingly sprightly as he sprinted around the perimeter of the training field with only a small bandage over his left knee.

On Monday, Ferretti said: "Our objective is for him to be ready for the second game.

"It will be difficult for him to be ready for the first game.

"This morning we had another examination of the knee and it is much, much better.

"However, he needs two days of physiotherapy and a gradual return to training."

Inzaghi, reckoned to be Italy's best goal-poacher, picked up the injury in scoring during the 2-1 win over Kashima, the Japanese champions.

Inzaghi had an operation on the same left knee in December and was out of action for three months.

The absence of serious ligament damage in Monday's scan appeared to rule out a recurrence of that injury.

The Italian camp reported no other injuries on Wednesday, and Roma's Francesco Totti appeared to be fully recovered from his recent thigh injury.
