David Seaman
Club:Arsenal
Position:Goalkeeper

Remains England's number one after responding to calls for his international retirement with a string of fine performances.

A crucial save in the final seconds against Finland and a clean sheet in Greece cemented his hold on the goalkeeping position during qualifying.

And he further underlined his credentials in England's 1-0 World Cup win over Argentina - commanding his area with supreme skill and making a brilliant save to preserve England's lead.

Had an injury-hit domestic season but his composure and experience sees him remain England's safest choice in goal.

Peaked during Euro 96 with some immense performances.

Was the hero in the group match with Scotland when he kept out Gary McAllister's penalty and also pulled off a save in the quarter-final shoot-out against Spain.

Also blocked an Argentina spot-kick four years ago, but the misses from Paul Ince and David Batty made that save redundant.
