But Eriksson received better news on his other injury doubts, with Robbie Fowler and Nicky Butt both playing a part in training.
Fowler took part in his first session since encountering a hip problem, joining in with a six-a-side game.
Butt engaged in some one-touch work in a circle with his squad mates, although
he then peeled off to do rehabilitation on his own with England physio Gary Lewin.
"Butt will do everything with the squad on Saturday. He had a good session today and did some good tests.
"David Beckham will not play football during training but his injury is progressing well. It's the same with Kieron Dyer."
Teddy Sheringham was also back in action after suffering blisters on his foot during Tuesday's 1-1 draw with South Korea.
England continue their World Cup warm-up with a friendly against Cameroon in Kobe, Japan, on Sunday.
