The hardworking Luis Gomez has not yet cemented his place in Ecuador's first XI but has been a regular squad member since making his debut last year in the goalless draw against Colombia.

Preferred on the right-hand side of midfield, he employs the sort of work ethic coach Hernan Dario Gomez has tried to drum into his players.

Currently playing in his home country for Barcelona, he has also spent a year in the Argentine top flight.

Perhaps his finest moment at club level came when he saved Barcelona from relegation with a goal two minutes from time in the final match of the 2000 season.
