Agustin Delgado scored nine times during qualification to help Ecuador reach their first World Cup finals.
He had his most successful spell to date at Mexican club Necaxa.
And he came to prominence at the 2000 Fifa World Club Championship, playing against the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid.
At the end of 2001 he joined Southampton for £3.5m and in turn became the first Ecuadorean to play in the English Premiership.
However, he amassed only 143 minutes of action for the Saints and has required two knee operations in an injury-hit build-up to the World Cup.
