The veteran had an up and down season before securing a place in Morten Olsen's squad.

He left Silkeborg for Besiktas in the summer of 2001 but failed to settle and moved to Scotland soon afterwards.

But while still in Turkey he filled in for the injured Thomas Sorensen against Bulgaria - keeping a brilliant clean sheet to help his country to a crucial win on the road to qualification.

At 36, he is not short of experience and was part of the Danish squad for the 1998 World Cup Finals, although he did not feature.
