Former coach Richard Moller Nielsen believes Denmark's 2-1 win over Uruguay can act as the springboard to a successful World Cup.
Moller Nielsen was in charge when Denmark won the European Championships in 1992.
And the Dane believes that Morten Olsen's men can emulate the success he enjoyed 10 years ago.
"I have such high hopes and belief in Danish success," Moller Nielsen said after the opening win of a campaign that puts Denmark top of Group A after the first round of matches.
Denmark will face France's conquerors Senegal on 6 June before finishing the group stage against the world champions five days later.
Moller Nielsen believes Denmark can win both matches and qualify for the second round with a 100% record.
"It's been a long, long time since we have had such a good team," Moller Nielsen told Danish newspaper Politiken.
"There's depth and harmony in the squad, there are players who can lead, and we have players who can score goals.
"To see a player like Jon Dahl Tomasson have this unbelievable gift of being able to be at the right place at the right time, is wonderful.
"You always know that the first game will be tough, and this was a fantastic start for Denmark.
"They won by doing good, professional work against a team which was not bad.
"It was an entertaining and exciting game, and I'm sure Denmark can now beat the other two teams in the group."
John Jensen, the former Arsenal player who is now coach at Danish side Herfolge, agrees with his former mentor.
"To me Denmark-Uruguay was a better match than Senegal-France and our chances have increased," Jensen said.
"I still have France as favourites in the group, but I believe Denmark will join them in the next round."
