Placente began his career in 1996 for Argentineans Juniors.
He made his move to top Argentine side River Plate in 1997, where he played over 100 games before moving to Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga.
He appeared in the 2002 Champions League final against Real Madrid, but could not help his team lift the trophy.
He made his debut for Argentina in 2000 against Mexico and has figured on a further half a dozen occasions.
