Chamot had no part to play in qualifying but his experience at international level has brought him a timely return to the Argentina set-up.
Now 32, he has been plying his trade in Europe for almost a decade.
He joined Italian side Foggia in 1993 but impressed so much he was immediately snapped up by Lazio.
After four years in the Italian capital he spent two seasons in La Primera Liga with Atletico Madrid before switching to AC Milan.
He has not always been at the forefront of his club's attentions but should provide useful control and confidence at the back for his country.
