A defender for his club employers, Zanetti has proved his versatility by moving up into midfield after Marcelo Biesla opted for his 3-3-1-3 system.

Again at the World Cup he looks set to be pushed ahead of the back three.

The 28-year-old has been a fixture at Inter since arriving for the start of the 1995/96 season, never playing less than 28 games in a season.

He also boasts four goals at international level but looks unlikely to be used in too attacking a role.
