90 (+3) mins: The ball falls to Nwankwo Kanu in the Sweden box. He tries a delicate chip but Magnus Hedman gathers.

It proves to be Nigeria's last throw of the dice and the Africans cannot now progress from Group F. Sweden will know what is needed from them in their last game after England have taken on Argentina.

85 mins: Nwankwo Kanu wins a free-kick off club team-mate Freddie Ljungberg. Nigeria's pressure is now relentless.

81 mins: John Utaka wriggles free in the Sweden box but his shot is hacked off the line by Johan Mjallby. Moments later Joseph Yobo strikes a fierce shot against the post. He has been Nigeria's best player and can count himself very unlucky.

78 mins: As Nigeria pour forward the likes of Freddie Ljungberg and Henrik Larsson threaten to put the game out of their reach.

73 mins: The game is wide open now and Henrik Larsson squanders an easy chance for his hat-trick at the other end.

71 mins: The bandaged Taribo West misses an easy header from three yards out. His profligacy could prove costly.

68 mins: Sweden pick Nigeria apart on the counter attack and Anders Svensson squanders a chance to give his team a two-goal lead.

65 mins: Nigeria bring on striker Nwankwo Kanu for defender Celestine Babayaro knowing that a loss to Sweden would eliminate them from the competition.

61 mins: A loose pass from Ike Shorunmu gifts the ball to Henrik Larsson, who is brought down in the box. The Swedish striker scores from the spot.

58 mins: While Taribo West is having a nasty gash stitched up, Nigeria continue to play a man down. Sweden push forward, led by the energetic Freddie Ljungberg.

53 mins: Justice Christopher goes on a sparkling run but cannot quite find the final ball for Nigeria. A bloodied Taribo West goes off for treatment following a clash.

51 mins: Sweden dally when they have a three-on-three opening and the chance goes before Henrik Larsson or Marcus Allback can get off a shot.

48 mins: Nigeria and Sweden resume this open, flowing game and early chances are created at both ends.

1833 BST: The second half kicks off. Both teams will be a chasing the win that will put them in a strong position in Group F.

45 (+1) mins: The referee brings an exciting first half to a close. Few would bet against there being more goals in this game.

44 mins: Sweden continue to create chances for Henrik Larsson, who must fancy his chances of scoring again in this match.

42 mins: Nigeria are showing nice touches up front but look dangerously frail at the back in this pulsating match.

37 mins: Jay-Jay Okocha makes a dazzling run and almost finishes in style. Sweden's defence make a hash of the clearance and the ball hits their post off Johan Mjallby before bouncing safe.

34 mins: Henrik Larsson breaks with pace and latches on to a superb Freddie Ljungberg through ball to equalise for Sweden.

30 mins: Johan Mjallby gets the first yellow card of the game for diving in the Nigeria box.

27 mins: Julius Aghahowa scores his first goal of the World Cup from a cross by Joseph Yobo. He celebrates in extravagant style with seven backflips and a cartwheel.
Sweden 0-1 Nigeria

24 mins: A sloppy pass from Freddie Ljungerg leads to Julius Aghahowa's first half chance. The striker fails to control the ball.

21 mins: From the resulting corner Johan Mjallby heads just over the Nigeria bar.

20 mins: Henrik Larsson goes over in the Nigeria box and appeals for a penalty that is not given. Freddie Ljungberg makes a surging run and almost gets his shot in.

16 mins: Nigeria are coming it to the game now. It is a very hot afternoon in Kobe, weather that may favour the Africans as the match goes on.

12 mins: Jay-Jay Okocha whips in the first telling cross for Nigeria, but Celestine Babayaro fails to connect.

9 mins: Anders Svensson shows great skill in midfield and his shot flies just wide of Ike Shorunmu's goal.

7 mins: Nigeria win their first meaningful possession, but their passing breaks down in the Sweden half.

3 mins: Olof Mellberg drives over the bar from long range following a Sweden corner. Nigeria have not settled at all.

1 min: The ball almost breaks to Henrik Larsson in the Nigeria box. Moments later, the striker tees up Marcus Allback, whose shot is deflected wide.

0730 BST: The match kicks off in Kobe. England and Argentina will look on with interest as the two other teams in Group F do battle.

Patrik Andersson misses out with injury for the second straight game of this World Cup. Sweden line up with Marcus Allback and Henrik Larsson up front.

Nigeria pin their goal-scoring hopes on Julius Aghahowa, who will be supported by Bartholomew Ogbeche and John Utaka. Nwankwo Kanu drops to the bench.
