104 mins: Still Ireland press forward and Robbie Keane sees his shot blocked. Spain are struggling to get out of their half.

102 mins: Ireland win a free-kick on the left level with the area but Niall Quinn cannot reach the header.

99 mins: Spain are rattled and Ireland are surging forward in waves.

97 mins: Ireland win a corner on the left. Gary Breen heads back in but Spain knock it out before Breen gets a second chance but fires straight at Iker Casillas.

82 mins: Steve Finnan gets in a good position on the right but blasts the cross to far.

81 mins: Ian Harte is replaced by David Connolly. As Harte reaches the touchline, he gets a pat on the back and a handshake from Mick McCarthy.

80 mins: Alberto Luque comes on for Raul.

79 mins: Damien Duff takes the bull by the horns and surges forward, cutting inside before unleashing a long-range shot which bends outside the post at the last minute.

77 mins: Ireland win a free-kick about 30 yards out. Ian Harte steps up and bends it around the wall but it hits Robbie Keane and goes out for goal-kick.

76 mins: Spain undertake a long passing sequence, forcing Ireland to chase shadows all over the pitch.

75 mins: Ireland give it away in the middle of the park but Spain break in fairly lacklustre fasion and waste a good opening.

72 mins: Raul's point-blank shot is blocked by Shay Given.

71 mins: David Albelda comes on for Fernando Morientes for Spain.

69 mins: Ireland win a free-kick wide on the left about 40 yards out but Spain head clear.

68 mins: Raul finds the back of the net but is again ruled offside.

67 mins: Gaizka Mendieta escapes his marker and crosses for Fernando Morientes who can not climb high enough.

65 mins: Francisco De Pedro goes off for Gaizka Mendieta.

62 mins: Ian Harte steps up to take the penalty but hits it straight and Iker Casillas parries it away. Ireland miss the rebound.

61 mins: Damien Duff is played in again and he pushes it into the box but is felled by Juanfran and the referee points to the spot.

58 mins: Damien Duff does well on the right flank and gets in a cross but a Spanish defender gets there first.

58 mins: Fernando Hierro heads over the top at the far post.

57 mins: Ireland are hanging in well despite the deficit but concede a corner on the left.

54 mins: Ireland press again but Gary Kelly's cross is wayward. And that concludes Kelly's participation - he is replaced by Niall Quinn.

52 mins: Francisco De Pedro sets off on a mazy run but is eventually floored on the edge of the area. Ireland break quickly but Gary Kelly's cross fails to find a team-mate and Spain clear.

49 mins: The injured Steve Staunton goes off for Kenny Cunningham as Kevin Kilbane's shot is cleared off the line by Ivan Helguera.

47 mins: Raul's clever drag back sends Fernando Morientes through on goal but he fires straight at Shay Given.

46 mins: Spain kick-off the second half. Has Mick McCarthy's team talk had the required the effect?


Half-time: Ireland are attacking on the whistle but it will be little comfort after a half in which they were outplayed by a cultured Spanish outfit.

45 mins: Ireland surge forward for one last attack but Ian Harte blasts high over the bar from 30 yards out.

44 mins: Spain's build up is slick again but again Raul is offside.

43 mins: Matt Holland chips over the top of the Spanish back four and Robbie Keane races through but the bounce is just too high and he can only hook it over the bar.

42 mins: Spain win a corner on the right. Kevin Kilbane heads away strongly.

40 mins: This time Raul is offside. Very soon one of these runners will get through.

39 mins: Fernando Morientes is caught offside by the deliberate Irish trap but the decision looks questionable.

37 mins: Ireland catch Raul offside and break quickly down the right through Gary Kelly. His cross is just too high for Kevin Kilbane at the far post.

35 mins: Ireland win a corner on the left. It is cleared but comes back in for Damien Duff, who wins another corner.

32 mins: Damien Duff gets in behind the Spanish defence but his pull-back is cut out by Ivan Helguera.

30 mins: Raul and Francisco De Pedro exchange quick passes on the left but De Pedro's cross is too long.

29 mins: Steve Staunton miscues a Luis Enrique cross and it spins out for a Spain corner on the left. Ireland get it away but Spain press again with a throw on the right.

28 mins: Ireland slow things down and try to build from the back but give it away.

26 mins: Spain's attacking class is beginning to ooze. Luis Enrique nearly puts Raul through but overhits it slightly.

25 mins: Spain's Luis Enrique finds the back of the net after neat interplay with Raul and Fernando Morientes but he is ruled offside. Irish captain Steve Staunton is injured in the attack and limps off for some treatment.

23 mins: Fernando Morientes is caught offside again, exposing an obvious Irish ploy to step up briskly when the ball is played in.

20 mins: Ireland have done all the attacking since the goal but suddenly Spain spark into life and Raul is nearly played through, only to be denied by the flying Shay Given.

17 mins: Ireland are easing their way back into the game.

16 mins: Robbie Keane shoots wide.

15 mins: Matt Holland nods on for Robbie Keane, who tries to muscle his way into the box but is ruled offside.

14 mins: Damien Duff combines well with Mark Kinsella who has a dig from the right edge of the box, only to blast it over the top.

13 mins: Kevin Kilbane plays a long cross in from the left but it just floats beyond the far post.

12 mins: Spain look comfortable and are happy to build patiently from the back.

10 mins: Ireland attempt to settle down after the early body blow.

7 mins: Spain's Fernando Morientes gets in front of Gary Breen at the near post to head home Carles Puyol's cross from the right.

5 mins: Ireland win a corner on the right but it is defended well.

4 mins: Both sides have started fast and furiously, pressing forward quickly at every opportunity. Ireland show no signs of giving Spain too much respect.

3 mins: Fernando Morientes climbs high at the far post but heads into the arms of Shay Given.

2 mins: Spain press dangerously but Raul's final pass is astray. At the other end Robbie Keane breaks on his own down the left and tries to bend a shot inside the far post but it just floats wide.

1 min: Ireland look lively and surge into Spain's half from a free-kick.

1230BST: Ireland get into a team huddle and then kick-off on a humid night in South Korea.

Pre-match build-up: The Ireland squad are out on the Suwon pitch limbering up. The stadium is bedecked in Irish flags and large sections are swathes of green.
