Ireland clinch their place in the last 16 of the World Cup as goals from Robbie Keane, Gary Breen and Damien Duff seal a 3-0 win over Saudi Arabia in Yokohama.

1422 BST: The final whistle blows and Ireland take their rightful place in the last 16 of the competition, joining Germany from Group E.
Ireland's 3-0 win over Saudi Arabia is the first time they have scored more than one goal in the World Cup finals.

90 mins (+2) Substitute Lee Carsley tries to barge his way through into a scoring position but is penalised.

90 mins (+1) Ireland kill the clock, knocking the ball around against a disconsolate-looking Saudi team.

89 mins: As Ireland's 10,000 fans get ready to celebrate, Abdullah Al-Jamaan tries to get a Saudi consolation goal, but his shot is woefully wide.

86 mins: Ireland seal their qualification for the last 16 as keeper Mohammed Al-Deayea allows a shot from Damien Duff to squirt out of his hands and over the line.

85 mins: Ireland break down the left again but Kevin Kilbane is guilty of over-indulgence as his extravagant flick in the Saudi penalty area fails to find a team-mate.

83 mins: Damien Duff takes a return pass from Robbie Keane and tumbles under the challenge of Redah Tokar but referee Ndoye rightly ignores penalty appeals.

81 mins: Jason McAteer makes an instant contirbution with an accurate cross to pick out Ribbie Keane, but with time and space to turn and shoot, Keane opts to lay the ball off and the Saudi defence clear comfortably.

79 mins: Ireland boss Mick McCarthy makes another change, replacing the tiring Gary Kelly with Jason McAteer.

78 mins: Mohammed Al-Jihani, who was a force in the first-half, has faded and is replaced by Ahmed Al-Dossary.

B>77 mins: Shay Given shows good anticipation as he sprits from goal to grab a through ball just ahead of Abdullah Al-Jamaan.

73 mins: Ireland's defence is caught out for the first time and Mohammed Al-Shiboub lets them off the hook as he fails to get enough power into his header and the ball loops gently to Shay Given.

71 mins: Substitute Mohammed Al-Jamaan presents the Irish defence with a physical challenge to deal with as he barrels his way forward to fire high and wide.

70 mins: Mohammed Al-Jahani's foul on Damien Duff allows Ireland to apply more pressure and after the Saudi defence fail to convincingly deal with Steve Staunton's free-kick, Niall Quinn shoots wide.

67 mins: Saudi Arabia make a couple of changes with striker Mohammed Al-Shihoub replacing Abdulaziz Al-Khathran and Abdullah Al-Jamaan on for Abdullah Al-Zubromawi.

65 mins: Shay Given rushes form his goal to punch away a through-ball but he recovers quickly enough to gather the ball as Mohammed Al-Jahani tries to catch him out.

63 mins: Gary Kelly bursts down the right wing and his cross finds Niall Quinn who volleys wide with Mohammed Al-Deayea a spectator.

61 mins: The punishment is doubled as the Saudi defence fail to deal with Steve Staunton's free-kick and Gary Breen steals in to guide the ball into the net with the outside of his right foot to gve Ireland the two-goal winning margin they need.

60 mins: Nawaf Al-Temyat tugs halts Kevin Kilbane's progress by tugging his shirt, collecting a yellow card in the process.

58 mins: Little signs of impatience appear in Ireland's play, and when Robbie Keane collects the ball in a promising position his hasty pass goes astray and Ireland lost the initiative.

56 mins: With Niall Quinn up front, Ireland fall for the temptation to lump the ball forward to seek him out, but Steve Staunton badly overhits the ball which runs out of play.

55 mins: News comes through that Germany have taken the lead against Cameroon. As things stand, Ireland would qualify.

53 mins: Robbie Keane is presented with another shooting chance and although this time he plants his volley on target Mohammed Al-Deayea is solidly behind the ball.

52 mins: Robbie Keane's finely weighted pass connects perfectly with Damien Duff's run, and although Duff shows great awareness in pulling the ball back for Keane, the Leeds striker slices his shot.

50 mins: Kevin Kilbane has some defending to do in his new left-back role as he gets his head to Ibrahim Al-Shahrani's long through-ball.

48 mins: Damien Duff again slices through the Saudi right flank, and he squares the ball to Robbie Keane, who pivots and drives a shot just wide of the left-hand post.

46 mins: Redah Tokar's foul on Damien Duff gives Ireland a chance to test out Saudi Arabia's defence in the air, but Kevin Kilbane's free-kick fails to find Niall Quinn's head.

1332 BST: The second half begins with Niall Quinn thrown into the action, in place of Ian Harte. Kevin Kilbane drops to left-back, with Damien Duff dropping to a midfield role.

1318 BST: The first half comes to an end with Ireland still looking for that elusive second goal against a Saudi side that has improved and gained in confidence.
Half-time: Saudi Arabia 0-1 Ireland.

45 mins: As the clock runs down on the first-half, Shay Given is again uncharaceteristically unsure on a cross, punching it into the air, and catching it at the second attempt.

43 mins: Nawaf Al-Temyat hammers in a free-kick from the left and Shay Given takes no chances with the slippery ball as he fists it clear.

41 mins: Defender Mohammed Al-Jahani again pushes forward and Nawaf AlTemyat slides a beautifully weighted pass inside Ian Harte to allow Al-Jahani to slam in a shot from 10 yards which Shay Given beats away.

38 mins: Nawaf Al-Temyat provides another warning for Ireland as he picks up a loose ball and skips inside before driving a 25-yard shot just wide of Shay Given's right-hand post.

36 mins: Saudi Arabia string together some neat passes in midfield and defender Mohammed Al-Jihani pushes forward to whip in a cross which Al-Hassan Al-Yami who skips past a couple of challenges before Steve Stunaton halts his progress with a timely challenge.

34 mins: Saudi Arabia are defending high up the field and as Matt Holland attempts to play Robbie Keane into the space behind, the ball skids off the slippery surface and runs through to goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Deayea.

32 mins: The heavy rain continues to fall, but although the conditions would appear to be more to Ireland's liking, Saudi Arabia are coping well.

30 mins: Ireland win another corner and although Steve Staunton's inswinging corner sails over the head of Mohammed Al-Deayea, it is too high for his team-mates and runs harmlessly out of play.

29 mins: Redah Tokar's foul on Damien Duff give Ian Harte a chance to load another free-kick in but although Robbie Keane rises highest he is unable to keep his header down.

26 mins: Saudi Arabia are seeing plenty of the ball and knocking it about confidently and another warning bell sounds as Khamis Al-Owairan's cross is allowed to drift across the Ireland goalmouth before Shay Given takes command.

24 mins: Nawaf Al-Temyat issues a warning to Ireland with a pacy run down the left flank which wins him a corner off Gary Kelly.

22 mins: Abdulaziz Al-Khathran has Saudi Arabia's first sight of goal, but his speculative effort from 30 yards is an easy catch for Shay Given.

20 mins: Saudi Arabia arrange themselves into a compact shape, and Ireland know they will have to set the pace, but also play with patience to break the Saudis down.

17 mins: Kevin Kilbane collects a loose ball and runs at the rapidly retreating Saudi defence, but Mohammed Al-Deayea gets his body firmly behind the ball and shows safe handling to gather the greasy ball.

16 mins: Mohammed Al-Deayea spills another cross from Damien Duff but escapes as Ireland's lack of bodies in the box gives him time to gather at the second attempt.

14 mins: Kevin Kilbane's cunning pass sets Damien Duff away and his cross is hacked away by REdah Tokar.

13 mins: Ireland have some defending to do as Gary Breen clears Ibrahim Al-Shahrani 's cross to safety.

10 mins: Ian Harte swings in a viciously curling corner which Mohammed Al-Daeyea palms away under pressure.

7 mins:Steve Staunton's long pass allows Gary Kelly to hook the ball into the Saudi Arabia box and although Robbie Keane hits his volley into the ground, Mohammed Al-Deaya allows the ball to slip through his hands.

6 mins: Damien Duff feeds Kevin Kilbane in but Fouzi Al-Shehri does well to block.

5 mins: The ball is pumped forward but Al-Hassan Al-Yami cuts a lonely figure up front and Shay Given fields an easy ball.

2 mins: Ireland win a free-kick as Fouzi Al-Sherhi fouls Damien Duff, but Ian Harte's delivery is poor.

0730 BST: Ireland kick-off, and Saudi Arabia make their intentions known as they get everyone behind the ball.

0728 BST: Ireland look calm and compsed for the task in hand, which is to beat Saudi Arabia by two goals.
