Injury boost for Portugal
Abel Xavier has provided Portugal with a timely boost
Xavier (right) trains with his team-mates
Portugal have recieved a boost ahead of Friday's crunch game against co-hosts South Korea with news that defender Abel Xavier and midfielder Paulo Sousa have recovered from injury.

Team doctor Henrique Jones confirmed that both should be available for selection for a game Portugal must win to qualify for the last 16.

Portgual's other minor knocks and scrapes should also heal to give coach Antonio Oliveira almost a full squad to choose from.

Midfielder Armando Petit has been treated for tendonitis in his thigh following Portugal's 4-0 wi over Poland that revived their qualification hopes.

Defender Nuno Frechaut sprained his right ankle against Poland, but Jones said he would resume training on Thursday and that it was "perfectly possible" he would be fit to face Korea.

Of the fit-again players, Liverpool defender Xavier is most likely to be recalled to bolster Portugal's defence.
