Mexico striker Cuauhtemoc Blanco insists his side can reach the semi-finals of the World Cup after their impressive display against Italy.
Mexico took the lead through Jared Borgetti's controlled header - and progressed to the last 16 as Group G winners.
Italy equalised through Alessandro del Piero after 85 minutes to clinch second place in the group.
But Blanco believes Giovanni Trapattoni's team were fortunate to reach the knockout stages.
"We had Italy in our hands and we were showing what a great team we have become," said Blanco.
"Italy were lucky to get a point and lucky to go through. I think we were all disappointed that we did not finish them off and win the game."
Mexico's previous best in the World Cup is a quarter-final place, which they have reached twice, although Blanco is looking forward to the team improving on that this time around.
He added: "We are confident of getting to the semi-finals ourselves and making history for Mexico."
