Voeller hands it to Brazil
Germany coach Rudi Voeller congratulates Ronaldo after the World Cup final
Voeller said Germany had no answer to Ronaldo

Germany coach Rudi Voeller hailed Brazil as worthy World Cup winners after Ronaldo's double shattered his side in Yokohama.

Voeller held high hopes of over-turning the odds and beating hot favourites Brazil - but they were sunk by two second-half goals as the South Americans claimed their fifth crown with a 2-0 win.

"There is no doubt Brazil deserved to win the World Cup. They showed their worth, not just in this match but throughout the entire tournament," said Voeller.

"They are very strong, tough, have a good goalkeeper in Marcos and also have players who can produce individual brilliance such as Ronaldo, who was a big difference here.

"Brazil have a wonderful team, and while I felt we had our moments at the start of the second half, we tired in the end and we must congratulate Brazil on a deserved victory."

Voeller added: "We can be happy with what we have achieved, although when you reach the World Cup final you want to go the extra mile.

"We had many injured players, but we fought our way through and have achieved good things.

"We felt we had the game under control in the first half and we created a number of chances, particularly at the start of the second half.

"But in contrast to previous games, we never got the vital first goal to give us a lead, and as the game went on our players started to look tired.

"This meant we were in difficulties against a Brazil side that is so fast and so strong. Brazil then took advantage and played very well.

"They showed flashes of individual brilliance, wall passes and quick passing movements, and in the end they got the goals, as they have done before and we cannot complain about their victory."
