'Greatest World Cup story'
Brazil striker Ronaldo
Ronaldo strikes gold for Brazil
BBC Sport's Alan Hansen

This has got to be the greatest World Cup story ever told.

I'm absolutely delighted for Ronaldo after what happened to him in the France 98 final.

Ronaldo did miss three sitters in the first half of this final, but then scored twice after the interval.

His first was a predator's finish, mopping up the leftovers of Oliver Kahn's spilled save.

The second was sheer class, side-footing the ball perfectly past Kahn.

And who would have thought that Kahn, the best keeper of the tournament, would make a mistake like that for the first goal.

When Ronaldo played in his first match against Turkey, he looked as if he was back to full fitness.

And he's showed it. Ronaldo is held in such high esteem by his fellow professionals, which makes his success all the sweeter.

The great thing about the win is that Brazil have been the best team in the tournament and the best team to watch.

They have simply been a joy to watch, oozing quality.

For their part, Germany have surprised a lot of people and played their best football of the tournament against the Brazilians.

But Brazil were simply able to step another gear.

Martin O'Neill

This victory has been a fantastic story for Ronaldo and for Brazil.

Brazil have been the best team in the tournament and deserved to win.

Germany did not take their chances when they should have and paid the price.

I am delighted for Felipe Scolari.

He may have said that the beautiful game was dead before the start of the tournament.

But the Brazil coach has since got his team playing football which utterly refutes his earlier statement.

Scolari was under-fire for not picking the likes of Romario and playing negative football.

But there is nothing greater than a coach getting it right and I'm just so pleased for 'Big Phil'.

Brazil were so good getting forward and withstood everything that was thrown at them.

And I wonder how Ronaldo must be feeling - it is such a great story for him and for football.

What a man. Ronaldo has reconfirmed his status as the best player in the world.

I didn't think he was fit, but he has done tremendously.

Ronaldo has worked so hard to get to the final and he has proved everyone wrong.

This is the stuff of dreams and what a feeling to be able to hold the World Cup aloft and celebrate with your team-mates.

I cannot praise Ronaldo enough.

Brazil are without question football's entertainers and have been the best team of the tournament.

And it just goes to prove that every time Brazil beat England in the tournament they then go on to win it.

Fantastic.
