Brazil's two-goal World Cup final hero Ronaldo has vowed to make up for lost time after reviving his career in spectacular style in Japan.

Ronaldo inspired Brazil to their 2-0 win over Germany in Yokohama to cap his comeback after four years of serious injury problems.

And as he basked in the glory of the Golden Boot for the tournament's leading goalscorer and taking his place alongside Pele with 12 World Cup goals for Brazil, he instantly set his sights on new targets.

He said: "I am very ambitious. I want to enjoy this and then really go for it.

"I want to enjoy the full pleasure of our victory, but then turn to new things I hope to achieve in football.

"I have ambitions I want to fulfil, to enjoy more success with Brazil.

"I was asked about setting my sights on a sixth World Cup with Brazil - but now I want to enjoy the fifth.

"I will celebrate, but I know new goals and objectives will come and I am ready to take them."

Ronaldo admitted he would have to take his time coming to terms with the scale of his achievements in Japan.

He said: "Slowly, slowly I am starting to understand what has happened to me and to this Brazil team.

"I think we played a great game against Germany and brought joy to ourselves and the Brazilian people.

"It will take time for us all to understand what has happened to us, but it is a joy to be surrounded by such happiness."

Ronaldo thanked God and his physiotherapist for helping him to recover in time for the World Cup and score the two goals in the final.

"The goal crowned my work and the work of the whole team," he said.

"I worked for two and a half years trying to recover from that injury and today God reserved this for me and the Brazilian team. I am very happy.

Ronaldo savours the moment
"It is marvellous for us all. I have said that after all I have suffered, every time I walk into a ground to play is a victory for me, so this is just wonderful.

"To hold the World Cup in my hands, which I have just experienced, is one of the most incredible moments of my life.

"If I was asked about my wildest dreams, I would never have considered this.

"But it would never have happened without this group of Brazil players.

"There is room for individuality, but without the strength of this Brazil group it is nothing.

"We missed out on the joy we are feeling now in France 98, but we are living it now and it is such a pleasure for every Brazilian."
