Brazil 2-0 Belgium in Kobe, Japan

90 mins: The final whistle goes and Brazil secure a quarter-final clash with England.

89 mins: Bart Goor has an opportunity to get one back but he shoots wide and the linesman's flag is raised for offside anyway.

86 mins: Ronaldo, who has seen little of the ball in the second half, gets on the end of a quick counter-attack and Geert De Vlieger is unable to stop his shot.
Brazil 2-0 Belgium.

84 mins: Time is running out for Belgium and after sustained pressure they get a shot in from substitute Wesley Sonck, but it is blocked and Brazil just manage to clear the ball.

79 mins: Sonck fires in another shot on target but Marcos gets down well to gather.

78 mins: A Belgium corner falls for Gert Verheyen but he is unable to direct it on target.

76 mins: Sonck tries his luck from outside the area but his curling effort is just too wide of the goal.

74 mins: Ronaldinho attempts an overhead kick from a Rivaldo corner, but it is doesn't threaten the Belgium goal.

73 mins: Goor has a great chance to level but he is unable to get his head on a curling cross and Brazil get a huge let-off.

71 mins: Mbo Mpenza finds room in the box but he fires his shot over the bar. Belgium bring on Sonck for Jacky Peeters.

67 mins: Belgium take the lead somewhat against the run of play. Ronaldinho crosses and Rivaldo controls the ball on his chest before unleashing a shot which is deflected past De Vlieger.
Brazil 1-0 Belgium

65 mins: Belgium have an appeal for a penalty turned down as Verheyen goes down in the box.

62 mins: Mpenza finds space and lays the ball back for Marc Wilmots. The Belgium captain tries to place the ball into the far corner but Marcos just gets his hand to it to keep it out.

60 mins: Rivaldo is given room by the Belgium defence but he fails to get hold of his shot and it drifts well wide of the upright.

57 mins: Denilson comes on for Brazil, with Juninho surprisingly the man to go off.

55 mins: Belgium enjoy some pressure and a cross from Wilmots finds Mpenza but he is denied by Marcos.

52 mins: After a good build-up by Belgium, Wilmots turns his defender and fires in a shot, but Marcos is up to the task and is able to turn the ball round the post.

51 mins: Ronaldinho fires in a free-kick from the left and Rivaldo is close to getting on the end of it, but Belgium do well to clear.

50 mins: Roberto Carlos gets forward and does well to get in the cross, but for a change there are no Brazil forwards in the box.

47 mins: Belgium get a free-kick just outside the box, but Wilmots' shot is blocked and the danger is cleared.

1331 BST: The game restarts in Kobe with the two teams still looking for the opening goal.


45 mins: Rivaldo and Ronaldo almost get on the end of a cross and the ball falls to Roberto Carlos, but his shot flashes across the face of the goal.

45 mins: Ronaldinho gets the ball just outside the box and runs past three defenders, but his shot is blocked and falls into the hands of De Vlieger.

40 mins: Rivaldo races away from the Belgium defence and Ronaldo does brilliantly to get on the end of his driven cross. But the ball flies off the outside of his boot and narrowly over the bar.

38 mins: Belgium's Peeters goes down with a head injury, but eventually gets up and is able to carry on.

36 mins: Juninho finds Ronaldo once again and the Brazilian forward powers between two defenders, but De Vlieger comes out quickly to block his shot.

34 mins: Wilmots gets above the Brazil defence to head the ball past Marcos, but the referee waves it off for an apparent push on the defender.

29 mins: From a Belgium corner Brazil counter-attack and a long run from Juninho ends with a Roberto Carlos shot which is well wide.

27 mins: Roberto Carlos goes into the book for a late challenge.

25 mins: Verheyen causes more problems in the box and his header falls for Goor, his shot is blocked and Wilmots' attempted volley goes over the bar.

23 mins: Ronaldinho is fouled and his free-kick curls just wide of the post.

22 mins: Juninho releases Ronaldo in space and his cross finds Rivaldo in the area, but a spectacular volley by the forward flies over.

18 mins: Ronaldinho goes on a great run and lines up Ronaldo, but the former World Player of the Year curls the ball inches over the bar.

14 mins: Verheyen outmuscles Lucio to get a header in, but it loops just over the bar.

12 mins: Brazil are starting to get on top and Juninho tries to release Ronaldo, but De Vlieger is quick to come out of his box to clear.

10 mins: A Roberto Carlos free-kick from 35 yards flies just over the bar.

7 mins: Brazil force two corners in succession and Gilberto Silva is close to getting on the end of Rivaldo's centre.

5 mins: Brazil have their first shot with Juninho trying his luck, but the ball flashes narrowly wide of the post.

4 mins: Belgium are making an encouraging start and Yves Vanderhaeghe fires in a long-range shot.

1 min: Belgium almost take the lead in the first minute when Mpenza almost chips Marcos from outside the area, but the Brazil keeper tips over the bar.

1230 BST: The game kicks-off in Kobe.

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is joined by captain David Beckham, Teddy Sheringham and Paul Scholes at the game to see who they will face in the quarter-finals.


Team news:

Brazil bring back Ronaldinho after the striker sat out their final group game to avoid picking up a second yellow card.

The forward joins Ronaldo and Rivaldo in a front three.

Defender Roque Junior also sat out the Costa Rica match with one yellow card and returns to the line-up.

Anderson Polga is the player to make way, with Edmilson keeping his place.

Roberto Carlos has recovered from calf trouble and replaces Junior in the side.

Belgium are without defender Glen De Boeck, who missed practice on Sunday with back pains.

His place in the starting line-up goes to Timmy Simons.
