The World Cup's finest - and worst
Both Stan Collymore and Paul Elliott have been impressed with Campbell and Ferdinand
Ferdinand and Campbell have been great for England
With the World Cup now eight days old, BBC World Cup pundits Stan Collymore and Paul Elliott name their team's of the tournament so far - while Mark Lawrenson selects his worst.

Stan Collymore

If anyone can beat this team I will be very surprised.

I have picked a 4-3-3 formation with Germany's Oliver Kahn in goal, although David Seaman is not far behind.

Cafu and Roberto Carlos are my two full-backs - bombing forward as often as possible.

In the centre of defence I would have Sol Campbell and Rio Ferdinand - they operate well together and are in good form.

Both Collymore and Elliott have selected Butt
Butt was outstanding against Argentina
Nicky Butt is my holding midfielder with Germany's Michael Ballack and Italy's Francesco Totti providing the creativity.

Juninho has done well for Brazil making good runs - and for someone like Michael Owen he is perfect with his sliding balls - so I have picked him to play slightly behind a front two of Owen and Italy's Christian Vieri.

Paul Elliott

I have opted for a 3-4-1-2 formation, starting with David Seaman in goal.

My defensive three are Campbell, Ferdinand and Fabio Cannavaro, who has been his usual brilliant self for Italy.

My wing-backs - as with Stan's selection - are the impressive Cafu and Roberto Carlos.

I would play them supporting the midfield, which comprises Butt in the holding role alongside Senegal's Salif Diao.

Just in front of Butt and Diao I would play Spain's Raul.

His movement and clever little balls are excellent for causing problems to the opposition defence.

And up front I have got Brazil's rejuvenated Ronaldo and Vieri.

Mark Lawrenson

Slightly different idea here in that I have picked a team of turkeys - the worst XI in the World Cup so far.

The goalkeeping berth goes to Portugal's Vitor Baia - didn't he have a just fantastic game against the USA.

Saudi Arabia's Ahmed Al-Dukhi Al-Dossary has played his way into the right-back role.

And I have selected Sweden's Teddy Lucic at left-back.

His attempted clearance against Nigeria - which smashed into Johan Mjallby before rebounding against the post - has earned Lucic his spot - as well as a possible place in a Laurel and Hardy film.

France's Frank Leboeuf - against Senegal - and Italy's Marco Materazzi - when he came on against Croatia - really struggled and form the central defensive partnership.

Baia was poor against the USA
Baia had a terrible game against the USA
Midfielder Rui Costa is Portugal's second player to make the terrible XI - again on the evidence of his performance against the USA.

I reckon two Slovenia players are worth their place.

Tottenham's new signing Milenko Acimovic has had a couple of poor games in the middle of the park while supposed star player Zlatko Zahovic has been sent home after a row with his coach.

Nigeria's Jay Jay Okocha has looked great with the ball at his feet but we have seen absolutely no end product and earns the final midfield berth.

And up front - the unfortunate namesakes.

Croatia's Davor Suker has looked a pale shadow of the player who won the Golden Boot in France four years ago.

And Turkey's Hakan Sukur was a big disappointment against Brazil.

Oh, and the coach - that will be Slovenia's Srecko Katanec - who has lost his star player after a row and watched his team crash out after losing their opening two games.
