Captain: Stephen Fleming |
The Black Caps are a two man team at present: Stephen Fleming, who has proved himself to be an outstanding captain, and Shane Bond.
When Fleming was at the crease, one felt that his team was always in a contest.
He led the way in the brilliant run chase at the Wanderers that contributed to South Africa's early exit, but was rarely supported by the rest of the batting line up.
As for Bond, he really is special.
Raw pace has now been coupled with accuracy, and the ability to jag the ball back into the batsman.
Like Fleming, he was left stranded by others, and New Zealand must urgently find bowlers who can put the ball in the right place at the end of the innings.
Qualifying, despite boycotting their match in Kenya, showed the strengths of the team, but the Super Six defeats to Australia and India showed their weaknesses.
