Fleming is the most successful captain the Black Caps have ever had.
He managed to take the national side to Test series wins over India, England, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
Fleming's achievements are particularly notable, considering the likes of Chris Cairns, Nathan Astle and Shane Bond were missing during a number of those matches.
In the shorter version of the game he helped New Zealand reach the quarter-final of the 1996 World Cup and then the semi-final in 1999 where they faced Pakistan.
The skipper managed to score 41 as the Black Caps set the opposition a target of 241.
But unfortunately their bowling attack was left mesmerised by the batting prowess of Saeed Anwar, who scored a century to help Pakistan to a nine-wicket victory.
