Since assuming the captaincy after the debacle of the last World Cup, Hussain has overseen an upturn in England's fortunes despite the recent disappointments in Australia.
But on the one-day scene this will be his greatest challenge and one he will have to rise to if England are to have any chance. As a batsman Hussain has been criticised in some circles for slow scoring in the 50-over game.
He has his best average playing at first-wicket down as well as his highest score.
That innings of 115, his first century, came last summer in his 72nd one-day international
However, at the World Cup, the fitness of his troops permitting, Hussain will drop down to number four in the order allowing Michael Vaughan to bat at three.
